Joseph Haj Receives SDC's Zelda Fichandler Award
Joseph Haj, Producing Artistic Director of PlayMakers Repertory Company in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is the 2014 recipient of The Zelda Fichandler Award, an award to recognize an outstanding director or choreographer who is transforming the regional arts landscape through imaginative, brave work in theatre. The 5,000 award, given by Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, heralds both accomplishment to date and promise for the future, and lauds deep commitment to a community.
Cirque du Soleil Will Create Show for EXPO MILANO 2015
Expo 2015 has selected the Cirque du Soleil Group, Events and Special Projects, to create an engaging and unique show concept to be presented during the Universal Expo taking place in Milan, Italy from May 1 to October 31, 2015.

Facebook Changes Real Name Policy; Apologizes to LGBT Community
Just yesterday, Facebook sent out an apology to LGBT users following its recent policy that forced real names on individual's Facebook profiles. In the past, users have been able to make profiles using whatever name they go by in day-to-day life, but in recent cases concerning transgender users and drag performers, this policy has not been upheld. STAGE TUBE: On This Day 10/2- LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS
Today in 2003, Little Shop of Horrors opened at the Virginia Theatre now the August Wilson Theatre, where it ran for 372 performances. Little Shop of Horrors is a comedy horror rock musical, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh. The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film The Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Roger Corman. The music, composed by Menken in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several well-known tunes, including the title song, 'Skid Row Downtown', 'Somewhere That's Green', and 'Suddenly, Seymour'.
