Today we are talking to one of the breakout stars of Season 3 of FOX's recent reality competition series THE X FACTOR and a stalwart Broadway regular in her own right, the passionate and versatile Rachel Potter. Espousing on her impressive new country-tinged album NOT SO BLACK amp WHITE and explicating the impetus behind many of the standout tracks on the release, Potter opens up about her unique journey thus far in both her own life and her show business career - from her conservative Baptist upbringing to her early success headlining Disney theme park extravaganzas leading to a string of Broadway roles and eventually landing on THE X FACTOR, followed by her big move to Nashville and embarking on creating songs for a solo album that expresses exactly who she is, here and now. On Saturday, February 28th, Broadway Serves hosted its third Kids Serve event. Taking place at the Minskoff Theater, over 30 children from the NY theater community attended. The kids donated toiletry items and created toiletry bags to be given to Urban Pathways, a not-for-profit, social service and supportive housing organization serving homeless adults in the NY Metropolitan Area. Kids Serve performers hailed from shows like Matilda, The Lion King, Les Miserable, Kinky Boots, Iowa, Radio City, and the tours of Shrek, Once, and The Lion King. HAMILTON creator Lin-Manuel Miranda recently took to Twitter to share a picture of the two actors backstage after a performance, with the caption, 'Monarchial line of succession. Groffsauce.' Review Roundup: KID VICTORY Opens at Signature Theatre
Virginia's Signature Theatre presents the world premiere production of Kid Victory, a new musical from legendary composer John Kander Chicago, Cabaret and acclaimed playwright Greg Pierce Slowgirl. The production began performances at Signature Theatre's MAX Theatre on February 17. It will play for five weeks, through March 22.
STAGE TUBE: On This Day for 3/1/15- GUYS AND DOLLS
Today in 2009, Guys and Dolls opened at the Nederlander Theatre, where it ran for 121 performances. Guys and Dolls is a musical with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It is based on 'The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown' and 'Blood Pressure', two short stories by Damon Runyon, and also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories, most notably 'Pick the Winner'. Premiering on Broadway in 1950, the original production ran for 1200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical has had several Broadway revivals as well as West End productions.
